Wood Shingles for Pitched Roof

Various types of covering materials are available for pitched roofs. Their selection depends upon the climatic conditions of a place, availability of materials, fabrication facility and the building owner’s budget.  One of such covering material is wood shingles.

  1. Wood shingles are thin pieces of split or sawn wood.
  2. Their length varies from 300-400 mm, width 60-250 mm and thickness from 10 mm at one end to 3 mm at the other end.
  3. They are nailed to the supporting structures.
  4. They are commonly used in hilly areas for low cost housing.
  5. Wood shingles have very poor resistance to fire termite.
